Martin Luther King Jr.

The most famous of all Martin Luther King speeches, “I Have a Dream” in it’s entirety.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s last speech was given shortly before his assassination.  It is commonly referred to as the “I have Been to the Mountain Top” speech.  It is a speech that shows MLK’s emphasis on helping all people and clearly explains how poverty plays a role in the challenges that faced our nation in 1968 and still face us now.

The final speech below is the most accessible and concise speech for students I have encountered and have used it with K-8 with equal success and interest by students.  It is entitled, “Fun Town” and discusses how he broke it to his own child that she could not go to an amusement park near her home because of the color of her skin.  It is powerful, accessible and interesting.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
